Phone Booth Film Comparison Insight

It is important I pay a lot of attention to this trailer to learn and gain techniques to include in my trailer, the overall storyline of becoming too good for everyone, being made vulnerable and realizing your mistakes after hand is totally identical to what happens in my storyline.

It is evident from the camera angles at the beginning of the trailer they are trying to make him look powerful and businesslike from the low angle camera shots. This is to make him appear big, bold and powerful.

After viewing this footage of him in power we see him in a position where he is made to look vulnerable. There is a very high angle shot looking down onto the phone booth which implies he is a little fish inside a big ocean. The camera then glances at the building with a low angle shot, this shows the power has now been shifted onto the man on the phone in a mysterious location.

The camera shots onto him when he is made vulnerable then only consist of close up and medium close ups. They have done this to make us unaware what is happening around him. This creates an atmosphere as if we are being restricted claustrophobia.

The trailer then leads into a false ending which enables us to believe that he has died, leaving unanswered questions to the viewers. This is a very important aspect in a trailer as it attracts people to want to watch the complete film. I will need to include something like this in my trailer which leaves the trailer unanswered.

Using effects appropriately

After exploring many different videos and paying a lot of attention towards effects i have recognised a few things which could be included in my trailer which would be very beneficial.

In one particular scene my character John loses conciousness, due to an unexpected blow to his head. I Have decided to add this effect into my scene. This being a blur which slowly fades to normal vision after regaining conciousness from waking up. This would suit my trailer perfectly.

Here is a screenshot of how a scene would appear if the victim has just regained conciousness.

Here is a screenshot below of a few seconds later what the video would look like. As you can see this is an effect used to show a POV view of a victim regaining conciousness.

This is an ideal effect I am looking forward to including in my final trailer. I want to use this effect due to the fact, it highlights my skills of being able to use Sony Vegas. On the other hand it is a very affective method of enhancing my trailer to a more complex level.

Phone Booth film comparison

I have chosen to explore into the Phone Booth which is a very high budget film. Directed by Joel Schumacher this film had a budget of 13$ million dollars.

Since my film is going to be low budget compared to Phone Booth, after watching this film I have discovered one element which is significantly important in progressing and building my trailer.

There is a huge similarity in Phone Booth. The main storyline features a character who starts becoming too over confident, cocky and egoistical towards other people. The plot consists of him being too good to be able to lend a stranger the phone for a few minutes. This can be linked to my main character John in my trailer who starts treating everyone around him like dirt. Eventually the main character in Phone Booth is made to look very vulnerable and beg for mercy for his freedom.

It is important I pay a lot of attention to this trailer to learn and gain techniques to include in my trailer, the overall storyline of becoming too good for everyone, being made vulnerable and realizing your mistakes after hand is totally identical to what happens in my storyline.

Time Warp - Happy, Break Through Atmosphere

Time Warp Project from UirĂ¡ Lamour on Vimeo.

This is similar to the December video i decided to review, by this i mean using sound to build an atmosphere.

I am simply inspired by this video. I have practised a lot to try to imitate some of these effects in my spare time. The sound simply makes you feel emotional, it is perfectly made. I will need to explore sound a bit more and how it can be so affective for my final trailer.

December - Thriller Footage

December from 328 Stories on Vimeo.

I have decided to take a look at December which is a random video which has been made displaying Christmas. As you can see from this clip it defines how important sound is, it really displays to an extent what you can do with synchronisation to build an atmosphere.

Shifty Trailer

My movie consists of two very close friends who share a strong bond. I have recently been exploring into films which are evolved around two main characters with strong friendship, I have been paying a lot of attention towards which camera angles and techniques producers use in these types of movies.

Directed and written by Eran Creevy Shifty is an excellent low budget UK film which is a prime example of a movie with two very close friends. Their friendship is elaborated mainly by the wise choice of music. This is due to very happy, joyful and positive feeling. They are two close friends who decide to go in business together.

In the middle of the trailer there is a small conflict between them when they come into disagreement. This is evident from the tense environment regarding the change in music. The music changes to a very dark, gloomy and mysterious tone which instantly suggests to us something has changed and there is a problem.

I have learnt a little bit from shifty about music changes and variations which create different moods, this is something I will need to include in my trailer of my film. Since my film is very similar regarding two close friends who encounter some problems at a later stage this is the perfect film to learn and explore techniques from.
