Genre of my film

Finding the genre of my film
I have been closely looking at action and horror/thriller films in depth. The two main movies which have intrigued me to work with these two genres are Man on fire and SAW 3; these films interest me since I found them very entertaining to watch. Due to the fact I share interest, I think it would be a good choice to work with one of these genres as my film genre choice.

I personally think an action film wouldn’t be as simple as it seems due to having the ability to organize the scene. In most popular action genre films there are a lot of special effects, these usually involve huge explosions, car accidents and amazing acting. As an amateur this would be a less realistic option to create a film trailer.

On the other hand if I take an insight into the SAW 3 movie and its trilogy. A lot of the scenes are shot in enclosed dark locations; this makes it a lot more possible to find suitable locations for the films scene.

Overall good and bad summary for horror/thriller movies compared to action

Horror/Thriller Movie

+ Easy to find locations to shoot the scenes, watching some of the SAW movies gives a lot of ideas of how I can shoot my scenes realistically.

+ Costumes can easily be created; these can either be old Halloween masks or bin bags and old clothes. There are many clothing options for my actors.

Action Movie

- Action movies often need good actors, as I am just an amateur film director I do not have access to professional actors.

- It can be hard to find locations for the big scenes in a movie, action movies include a lot of explosions and crazy scenes. I need to think realistically about the limited access and budget I have for my film.

- Having to buy props such as fake weapons would be increasing the budget.

Conclusion

Making a tough decision including the options I have to shoot my scenes and accessibility, I have decided I will base my film upon a thriller/horror. I have a lot of interest towards the thriller/horror genre; this should widen my view giving me more experience when it comes to creating my film trailer.

This genre has a very wide selection of narrative, the majority of horror and thriller films all vary very much. A good example of this is comparing a SAW movie to a Halloween movie; they are two totally different types of movies. The SAW movies have a very interesting narrative and plot.
